Great Year for Hampshire Under 14s

Squad makes ECB "A" League in 2017

Hampshire Cricket Under 14s produced the stand-out performances of the 2016 season, going  undefeated in all of their championship group matches and finishing top of  ECB Group 3.

The squad, captained by Jontie Sebborn, produced strong team performances throughout the season with Fletcha Middleton (245 runs including a hundred and 2 fifties) and Tom South (223 runs, 2 fifties) not far behind.

Off Spinner Jack Pearce topped the bowling charts with 10 closely followed by leg spinner Josh Balcombe and seamer Ayush Bose with 9.

The other squads had mixed results with the Under 15s narrowly missing out on the national quarter finals having lost their last group match. Bowling was their main strength, headed by George Pardoe with 16 wickets, and Zac Organ and Joe Kooner-Evans with 12 each.

The Under 17s also narrowly failed to qualify for the national cup latter stages, Somerset edging them out  thanks to a 0.05 higher net run rate.  Tom Scriven featured strongly with bat and ball scoring 686 runs and taking 16 wickets, while seamer Chris Searle led the way with 18 wickets.

The younger age group squads performed well winning nearly half of all matches played. Runs proved hard to come by although Under 13 Josh Royan scored his maiden century at this year’s Taunton Festival. The squads proved more dominant with the ball, Jonty Oliver (18 wickets) and Max Simpson (16) starring for the Under 12s and Sami Virji (17) the leader of the Under 13 attack.
