Hampshire Academy Set For February Durban Trip

Eight Hampshire Academy squad members will head to Durban, South Africa next month to help aid their development

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce that a number of Hampshire’s 2018 Academy intake will head to Durban, South Africa this February to help aid their development.

Eight squad members will make the trip which will see the youngsters practice and hone their cricket skills in a group environment and in testing conditions overseas, whilst also having the opportunity to enjoy new life experiences.

The players will also link up with former Hampshire Cricket Head Coach Dale Benkenstein during their time in South Africa, before returning back to the UK to begin their final preparations for the Academy’s 2018 campaign.

The trip has been made possible thanks to the support shown by local businessman, Paul Ancell, who has made a significant contribution towards the trip.

Ancell, owner of property renovation specialists, Exbury Property Group, and President of local side, Burridge C.C., played through the Club’s junior ranks as a teenager and is a keen supporter of cricket within the County.

This trip is an excellent opportunity for a number of our Academy players to develop their skills, not only as cricketers but also as individuals.

A number of youngsters who have been a part of similar individual experiences in previous years have taken a lot away from the trip, so hopefully all of the players will return with even more positive experiences as a group. Huge thanks must also go to Paul for his contribution and support which have helped to drive this opportunity.

Charlie Freeston, Head of Player Development

Following their time in Durban, the Academy will then return to the UK to continue their preparations for the 2018 Southern Premier League camapaign, with St Scross Symondians the side's first opponents on the 5th May.
