Hampshire Confirm La Manga Club Pre-Season Return

The full playing squad and coaching staff will head to La Manga Club for a second successive pre-season ahead of the 2020 campaign

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to confirm the team will visit La Manga Club for this year’s pre-season tour.

In partnership with La Manga Club Sports & Leisure, first-team players and coaching staff will head to the resort for a second successive pre-season, as part of their preparation for the 2020 campaign.

The bowling group will fly out to La Manga Club on Wednesday 11th March before all remaining squad members join them two days later on Friday 13th March. The full squad will then take part in a week-long training programme consisting of outdoor practice and strength & conditioning work before returning to the The Ageas Bowl on Saturday 21st March.

We were really pleased with last year’s trip to La Manga Club and this is another good opportunity to get the whole squad together there ahead of the upcoming season.

These trips are usually relatively short but you want to maximise what you can get out of it in terms of cricket so we’ll be looking to get as much in as possible, making use of the excellent practice and playing facilities available to us, before coming back to the The Ageas Bowl where hopefully the wickets will be in good shape to hit the ground running ahead of our opening friendly fixtures.

Giles White, Director Of Cricket

Regularly used for warm-weather training breaks by county and international teams as well as being a regular venue for ICC European tournaments, La Manga Club is widely regarded as the ‘home of cricket’ in Spain.

Covering an area three times the size of Monaco in Murcia, south-east Spain, La Manga Club has been designed to help international teams and counties with the development of players and coaches, and a number of international teams are already among its list of regular visitors.

The extensive facilities include six first-class grass pitches and two artificial wickets on two existing grounds, plus 23 grass and five artificial net lanes. In addition, there is also a specialist grass fielding, catching and wicket-keeping areas.

The best way to catch the Hampshire squad in action all season long is with a 2020 Hampshire Cricket membership.
