Hampshire Cricket in the Community Launch New Project to Support Adults with Learning Disabilities

'Aspire at the The Ageas Bowl' builds on the charity’s EmployABLE project

Hampshire Cricket in the Community has launched a new service to support adults with learning disabilities to develop skills and live more independently. The new service will be delivered in partnership with Aspire Occupational Therapy Services using the full extent of the sports, education and community facilities at the The Ageas Bowl to deliver a bespoke service tailored to the interests of individual participants.

Aspire at the The Ageas Bowl builds on the charity’s EmployABLE project, funded by European Social Fund and Skills Funding Agency, which provided a series of free employability workshops for 50 adults with learning and physical disabilities living in Southampton and Eastleigh. The new service has been designed to provide individually tailored support for all participants and will be delivered by experienced occupational therapists.

Zoe Danbury, director of Aspire Occupational Therapy Services, is aiming to transform the way in which adults with learning disabilities are supported and said: "Our vision is that adults with learning disabilities are able to achieve greater independence, have fulfilled lives and lead a full meaningful life within society. Where the aspirations of the individual are supported, acknowledged, and celebrated.

This is an exciting opportunity for us to build on the foundation we set with the EmployABLE project and to enhance the lives of people living in the local area. We are committed to using the world-class facilities at the The Ageas Bowl to inspire people to live well and are looking forward to working in partnership with Aspire to progress the services we can offer for disabled people.

Aspire Occupational Therapy Services was founded by Zoe Danbury a qualified occupational therapist, who is registered with the HCPC. Aspire will offer an exciting alternative to conventional day centres, where its members aid in the development of the service. Aspire promote independence, and use person specific graded activity to accomplish this. Activities will be exciting and fulfilling and will support its members interests and aspirations. Zoe's sister had learning disabilities, and she recognises the need for a forward thinking dynamic service.
