Hampshire Cricket Sign Ross Whiteley

Hard-hitting left-hander joins Hampshire on three-year contract after announcing Worcestershire depature

Hampshire Cricket are delighted to announce the signing of Worcestershire batsman Ross Whiteley.

The big-hitting left-hander joins Hampshire on a three-year, white-ball contract after announcing he would be leaving Worcestershire after a nine-year association with the county earlier this month.

Whiteley - who will join Hampshire on 1st November 2021 and has previously had stints in both the Pakistan Super League and Bangladesh Premier League – has enjoyed white-ball success in recent seasons, winning the inaugural instalment of The Hundred with Southern Brave this summer after playing a crucial role in Worcestershire’s success in 2018’s Vitality Blast.

''We are delighted Ross has decided to sign with Hampshire after his lengthy spell at Worcestershire.

When a player of Ross’s calibre becomes available there is always interest from a number of counties so it’s fantastic he’ll be joining up with us later this year.

We’re very much looking forward to seeing Ross in Hampshire colours next summer and we’re sure Hampshire fans will share that sentiment.’’

Giles White, Hampshire Director Of Cricket

The 33-year-old averages 25.46 in T20s – with a strike rate of more than 141 – and 27.66 in 71 List A innings and became only the sixth man in world cricket to hit six sixes in an over when he hit Karl Carver for six consecutive maximums in a T20 Blast match in 2017.

Whiteley – who came up through the ranks at Derbyshire before moving to Worcestershire in 2013 – is also renowned for his ability in the field and featured for England Lions in 2015-16.

“It’s with great excitement that I commit my future to Hampshire Cricket.

Hampshire is a club with a rich history of success in white ball cricket and I’m thrilled to be joining an exciting group of players in the search for more trophies.’’

The best way to see Ross and the rest of the Hampshire side in action in 2022 is with a Hampshire Cricket Membership.

Memberships for 2022 were released earlier this month – with prices frozen – and are available at www.ageasbowl.com/membership with a Membership the only way to guarantee access to tickets to England’s two Vitality IT20s at The Ageas Bowl in 2022 (vs India on Wednesday 6th July & vs South Africa on Sunday 31st July) with Hampshire Cricket Members granted access to tickets before the culmination of the free-to-enter ticket ballot.
