Hampshire Reach Royal London One-Day Cup Quarter-Final as Rain Intervenes at Trent Bridge 

Hampshire advance to the Royal London One Day Cup quarter-final stage after their match against Nottinghamshire Outlaws was abandoned due to bad weather at Trent Bridge.

A total of 39 overs were possible before the rain crept in, with Rikki Wessels, Alex Hales and former Hampshire all-rounder Dan Christian all hitting half-centuries to see Nottinghamshire on the way to 256-3.

However, as rain set in for an extended period the game was abandoned without a further ball bowled to see Hampshire advance to face Gloucestershire in an away quarter-final tie.

Both Nottinghamshire openers Hales and Wessels began positively with the Hampshire bowlers probing away with little reward during the powerplay overs.

The hosts reached an impressive 60 without loss in the first ten and continued their momentum by adding their total at an impressive rate in the following overs with both batsman reaching half-centuries to steer the home-side to 124-0.

Danny Briggs (2-48) made the first breakthrough shortly after with the aggressive Hales departing but with former Hampshire all-rounder Christian immediately looking in good touch, the flow of runs continued.

Both he and Wessels put on a 73-run partnership but when a surprise Chris Wood (1-43) bouncer found the latter’s top-edge, he departed.

Christian was joined by former England batsman James Taylor (25*) and the duo saw the score to 236-2 with both scoring at an impressive rate before the former departed just before the rain arrived at Trent Bridge.

With no further play possible, the one point picked up by Hampshire ensures qualification for the quarter-final stage.
