2nd Innings: Windwards 204 – 4 (36.2 Overs – K. Edwards 71; F. Edwards 3-52)

Hampshire returned to the Kensington Oval on Wednesday 7th February to face Windwards Volcanoes in their fourth Super50 match in their pre-season campaign, following their first victory against CCC Marooners on Monday (5th Feb).

After Monday’s win, Adams decided to bat first again after winning the toss against the Volcanoes.

Following some tough batting conditions in the previous game at the Kensington Oval, Hampshire were unfortunately greeted by the same circumstances.

Wickets struck early for Windwards, as they dismissed Alsop for none from just the second ball of the match.

Number three batsman, and tour-captain, Jimmy Adams arrived at the crease and took it upon himself to become the lead anchor role in Hampshire’s hunt for runs.

A flurry of good starts in partnerships helped Hampshire to a total of 200 all out, with Adams (83) being the main benefactor to the first innings, with McManus (28), Brad Taylor (24) and Asher Hart (21) all supporting to help boost the total.

Shane Shillingford, captaining the hosts, caused the most damage with the ball from the Windwards bowling attack, attaining four wickets for 32 from his 10 overs.

The Volcanoes were outmatched early in the innings by fellow Barbadian, Fidel Edwards (3-52) opening the bowling for Hampshire and taking the wickets of opening batters Devon Smith (14) and Johnson Charles (13) within the first five overs.

The introduction of current & previous West Indian Internationals Andre Fletcher (53) & Kirk Edwards (71*) to the crease saw a 94-run partnership attained by the two, securing the hosts to an advantageous position.

The match was seen off to the end by Kirk Edwards, reaching 71 not-out with Windwards finishing on a total of 204-4 from 36.2 Overs.

Hampshire v T&T Red Force (Second Leg)

Hampshire: Joe Weatherley, Tom Alsop, Jimmy Adams*, Sean Ervine, Lewis McManus†, Felix Organ, Brad Taylor, Gareth Berg, Asher Hart, Chris Wood, Brad Wheal.

T&T Red Force: Evin Lewis, Tion Webster, Amir Jangoo, Jason Mohammed, Denesh Ramdin*†, Nicholas Pooran, Imran Khan, Sunil Narine, Khary Pierre, Sheldon Cottrell, Shannon Gabriel.

1st Innings: Hampshire 139 all out (38.5 Overs – Adams 39; Pierre 6-34)

2nd Innings: T&T Red Force 143-9 (37.4 Overs – Mohammed 51; Weatherley 4-25)

Hampshire’s second leg fixture against T&T Red Force started as the visitors won the toss and decided to bat first.

Alsop fell early for no runs bringing tour-captain Adams in to steady the ship with Weatherley.

Once Weatherley (27) fell to the mastery of Sunil Narine's mystery bowling, the visitors’ middle-order followed in a similar fashion, with spinners Narine (2-22) and Pierre (6-34) picking Ervine, McManus & Organ’s wickets in a short period.

Brad Taylor (36) joined Adams (39) at the crease to bring some hope back to the Hampshire side, but Khary Pierre tore through the rest of the visitors’ batting attack, leaving Adams’ side 139 all out.

Hampshire’s opening bowlers Wood (1-16) and Wheal (2-28) made a good start to the innings with three wickets being taken between them, leaving the hosts 37-3 from 6.1 overs.

T&T progressed favourably in the match due to current West Indies International Jason Mohammed (51) batting at four, leading his team to 139-8 from 36.4 overs, after off-spinner Joe Weatherley managed to pick out Red Force’s middle-order, collating four wickets for 25 runs from 8 overs.

Felix Organ (1-8) grabbed the wicket of Khary Pierre, leaving T&T nine-wickets down but needing only one to win in the 38th over, hosting a tense atmosphere in the pitch for all players. Number 11, Shannon Gabriel (4*) finished off the match by hitting a four off his first ball to see the Red Force win by 1 wicket.

Hampshire face up next in their second leg fixture against the West Indies International-filled Barbados Pride tomorrow (Tues 13th Feb) at 1pm (GMT). You can follow the match or see a full scorecard of previous matches by following the link below.
