International Look Back: Captain Morgan’s Flawless Century Helps England Post 328 Against Ireland

England Captain Eoin Morgan’s 84-ball 106 included 15 fours and 4 sixes

England visit The Ageas Bowl twice in 2023 - with England Women facing Australia in an Ashes ODI in July and England Men facing New Zealand in an ODI of their own in September - and tickets for both fixtures went on sale recently.

To mark the on-sale, we're looking back at impressive individual performances in international fixtures at The Ageas Bowl.

In 2020, The Ageas Bowl was chosen as the venue for all four practice matches and 3 One Day Internationals between England and Ireland due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Contrary to all the other results on tour, It was the 3rd ODI that saw an inspired Ireland side chase down a mammoth 329 against Eoin Morgan’s side, thanks to Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie’s flawless hundreds on their way to a record-breaking 2nd wicket partnership of 214 runs.

Despite the loss, English fans will remember this match for Captain Morgan’s counterattacking 100, which came in at a crucial point for the team.

Choosing to bowl first, Ireland reduced the home team to 44/3 in under 10 overs, with Craig Young doing most of the damage. In came Eoin Morgan, and he clubbed his 14th ODI Century in 78 balls, finishing with 106 (84), which included 15 fours and four sixes.

With half-centuries from Tom Banton and David Willey, England scored 328/10 (49.5 overs), which wasn't enough as Ireland won the match by seven wickets.
