International Look Back: Shakib's All-Round Performance Too Good For Afghanistan

Bangladesh's star man scored fifty and took five wickets as Afghanistan were outclassed at The Ageas Bowl.

England visit The Ageas Bowl twice in 2023 - with England Women facing Australia in an Ashes ODI in July and England Men facing New Zealand in an ODI of their own in September - and tickets for both fixtures went on sale recently.

To mark the on-sale, we're looking back at impressive individual performances in international fixtures at The Ageas Bowl.

2019 saw The Ageas Bowl - named The Hampshire Bowl for the duration of the tournament - play host to several ICC Cricket World Cup fixtures, including Bangladesh taking on the upcoming Afghanistan team.

Tigers star man Shakib Al Hasan was one of the standout performers in the whole tournament.

The all-rounder scored 606 runs, the third most, with a top score of 124 not out and a staggering average of 87.

Shakib also chipped in with 11 wickets bowling his deceptive left-arm spin.

At The Ageas Bowl on a tricky pitch, Hasan was watchful on his way to a valuable half-century for the Tigers.

The first of Shakib's wickets came as Afghanistan was just one run away from a 50-opening partnership between Gulbadin and Rahmat, as the latter could only spoon a delivery to Tamim Iqbal at mid-on.

Gulbadin soon fell victim to Shakib as the Afghanistan captain was caught at short extra cover from a delivery that gripped and stuck in the surface.

The dangerous Nabi was Shakib's next scalp, bowled through the gate for zero, only facing two balls.

Asghar Afghan was caught in the deep before Shakib sealed his five-wicket haul as Shahidi charged down the track and was deceived in the flight. Mushfiqur Rahim did the rest for an easy stumping.

Shakib ended with figures of 5/29 from his ten overs as Bangladesh were clear winners by 62 runs.
