Liam Dawson: "I've Just Got To Keep Improving And Try To Get In The Next Squad"

Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson will feature in the Bangladesh Premier League this winter

Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson is focused on continuing to improve after being unfortunate to miss out on the England and England Lions squads announced recently.

The left-arm spinner made his home Test debut this summer, featuring in two fixtures in the series victory against South Africa, following impressive performances in his first Test appearance on the subcontinent last winter.

Whilst perhaps scoring less runs than he would have liked in this year's Specsavers County Championhip, Dawson was pleased with his red-ball return with the ball, having claimed 31 wickets at an average of just 26.1 in the competition.

"I bowled fairly well for Hampshire in red-ball cricket this year but when I played the two test matches for England I didn’t do myself justice – I didn’t bowl anywhere near as well as I know I can bowl which was disappointing but that's just a part of sport."

The amount of red-ball cricket in the International schedule this winter, with Dawson known particularly for his performances in white-ball cricket at International level, is noted as something that was a likely contributing factor.

"I didn’t really look too much into it, I imagine a lot of the Lions programme is red-ball cricket mirroring the Ashes squad so it wasn’t a huge shock.

"I've just got to keep improving and try to get in the next squad."

Dawson is still set for a jam-packed winter, with Bangladesh Premier League side Chittagong Vikings, securing his services for the 2017 campaign, which gets underway in November.

The tournament is one that Dawson is familiar with having represented Rangpur Riders last year, and he joins Hampshire teammates Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossow who are set to feature for Khulna Titans.

"I’m pleased to have signed for the Chittagong Vikings and excited for that which starts the first week of November.

"I played in the competition last year and it's a great a tournament to be involved in with some big overseas players so it’ll be a good test."

Dawson is likely to feature in Chittagong's competition opener, whilch will see the hosts take on Jos Buttler's Comilla Victorians on Sunday 5th November.
