Mason Crane & Ian Holland Sign New Contract Extensions

The Hampshire duo have both committed to their future to the Club after signing new extended deals

Hampshire Cricket are delighted to announce that Mason Crane and Ian Holland have been awarded new contract extensions, committing their future to the Club.

Crane, who featured prominently for Hampshire’s Second XI and Academy sides before making his first-team debut in 2015, enjoyed an excellent start to his Hampshire career, totalling 66 wickets in just 34 matches across all formats in his first two seasons.

After a spell in Australia over the winter saw him become the first overseas player in more than 30 years to represent New South Wales, the 22-year-old continued to impress on the county scene in 2017 as he claimed 49 wickets in all three formats. That excellent form saw him receive a first England call-up, where he featured in two T20I matches for Eoin Morgan’s side before getting the nod for England’s 2017/18 Ashes series in Australia, a tour which saw him make his Test debut.

Despite returning to England with a back stress-fracture which limited his playing opportunities last season, Crane still managed to play a pivotal role in Hampshire’s Royal London One-Day Cup triumph in June, before working on regaining full fitness this winter ahead of the 2019 campaign.

It is really nice that the Club have shown me this commitment and I’m delighted to show my commitment to Hampshire, hopefully I can be here for a very long time.

It’s been really frustrating not playing a game for almost nine months now but it’s been a great pre-season so far and I’m feeling really good about this year – hopefully I can make a big contribution to the team’s success across all formats this season.”

Mason Crane

Born in the United States, but a British passport holder, Holland made his first appearance for Hampshire First XI in 2017 having represented the Second XI side in previous seasons. The all-rounder earned debuts in all three formats during his first season and made key contributions, particularly in the Specsavers County Championship where he claimed 19 first-class wickets at an average of just 21.89, whilst also adding valuable middle-order runs.

A shoulder injury suffered whilst in Australia last winter prevented him from lining up for James Vince’s side to begin the summer, however Holland returned to feature in seven four-day contests during the final months of the season, contributing 15 wickets at an average of just 25.93 to help Hampshire secure a fifth-place finish in Division One.

I’m grateful for the faith shown in me by the Club. I love playing cricket for Hampshire and I’m very excited to have an impact in what I feel will be a successful period for the club across all formats in the near future.
