Match Preview: Hampshire v Glamorgan - Royal London One-Day Cup

Hampshire take on Glamorgan in the first home fixture of this year's Royal London One-Day Cup campaign

Hampshire will be looking to secure back-to-back victories to begin this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup as they take on Glamorgan at the The Ageas Bowl tomorrow in the first home 50-over fixture of the campaign.

After a triumphant 2018 Royal London One-Day campaign which saw Hampshire claim last year’s trophy, James Vince’s side began their title defence against Kent Spitfires on Wednesday, securing a comfortable 90-run win at Canterbury.

Hampshire Squad:

An unchanged 13-man squad has been named for Friday’s home opener against Glamorgan with Gareth Berg and Brad Taylor included alongside the final XI that featured in Wednesday’s win against Kent Spitfires.

Sam Northeast, who has begun the 2019 season in excellent form with 491 runs and three centuries in his last four matches, will be looking to continue his impressive start to the season against Chris Cooke’s side.

The Opposition:

Glamorgan struggled throughout last year’s 50-over competition, suffering seven defeats in their eight South Group matches and they opened their 2019 One-Day Cup campaign with a 180-run loss to Essex Eagles on Wednesday.

The Welsh-side appointed Chris Cooke as captain at the start of the season with previous skipper and big-hitting batsman Colin Ingram unavailable due IPL commitments – he’ll be hoping his side bounce-back to form away from home.

After making the move to Cardiff from Nottinghamshire this winter, Billy Root is an exciting prospect for Glamorgan this season and is likely to be important to their chances when visiting the The Ageas Bowl tomorrow.
