Match Preview: Hampshire v Middlesex - Royal London One-Day Cup

Hampshire take on Middlesex in the latest instalment of Royal London One-Day Cup action at the The Ageas Bowl on Tuesday

Hampshire will be searching for a trio of victories to begin this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup as Middlesex arrive at the The Ageas Bowl for the latest instalment of 50-over action tomorrow.

James Vince’s squad have enjoyed a strong start to their title defence so far with wins coming against Kent Spitfires and Glamorgan in last week’s opening fixtures – they’ll be hoping for more of the same in an important week in the competition, beginning with Dawid Malan’s side.

Hampshire Squad:

An unchanged 13-man squad has been named once again for Tuesday’s second home fixture, with Gareth Berg and Brad Taylor included alongside the final XI that featured in last week’s two victories.

Sam Northeast, James Vince and Tom Alsop have totalled more than 400 runs between them in this year’s competition so far and they’ll be looking to continue their strong start to the campaign. Kyle Abbott picked up a List A for Hampshire against Glamorgan last Friday, claiming 3-47 in good batting conditions, and he’ll spearhead the bowling attack once again on Tuesday.

The Opposition:

After a 2018 campaign which garnered mixed results, two wins from their first two fixtures have ensured a positive start to this year’s 50-over competition for Middlesex.

Batsmen Stephen Eskinazi, Nick Gubbins and skipper Malan have all made key contributions with the bat so far, and with England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan also featuring in the line-up, there are plenty of top-order threats to contend with. A six-wicket haul for leg-spinner Nathan Sowter in their first contest has been the highlight with the ball in the opening matches with good contributions also coming from seam duo Toby Roland-Jones and Tom Helm – minimising the success of both seamers in particular will be a priority for Hampshire on Tuesday.
