Match Preview: Hampshire v Somerset - Royal London One-Day Cup Final

Hampshire take on Somerset in the Royal London One-Day Cup final at Lord's on Saturday

After securing a first limited-overs title for the first time in six years last year, Hampshire head to Lord’s with hopes of defending their Royal London One-Day Cup crown as they take on Somerset at Lord’s in the competition finale on Saturday.

Hampshire Squad:

A 13-man squad has been named for Saturday’s 50-over clash.

Sam Northeast skippers the side once again, fresh from his excellent century in the County Championship earlier this week – he’ll be looking to continue that form on Saturday after enjoying a stellar start to this season in both white and red-ball competitions.

Brad Taylor, Lewis McManus, Ian Holland and Joe Weatherley are all included in the squad alongside nine of the final XI that featured in the semi-final victory against Lancashire at the The Ageas Bowl.

James Vince and Liam Dawson both lined-up for that win but are absent this time after being named in England’s 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.

The Opposition:

Somerset have enjoyed a similarly positive start to their 2019 campaign in both four-day and 50-over competitions, finishing third in the One-Day Cup South Group whilst also sitting top of Division One of the County Championship.

They’ll be hoping to translate that early success into a strong showing on Saturday and Tom Abell’s side have named a 14-man squad with overseas star Azhar Ali included alongside the dangerous Lewis Gregory, Peter Trego, Craig Overton and Roelof van der Merwe, who also feature.

What The Team Say:

Kyle Abbott: “That win over Lancashire was big and it’s a great opportunity now for guys to come in and show what they’re made of on the big stage.”

Aneurin Donald: “As it’s shown throughout the tournament so far, everyone has put their hands up at different points and shown how much of a quality side we are.
