The Southern Vipers head to Hove in search of a third win of the Kia Super League campaign as they face Lancashire Thunder
A thrilling final ball tie against Lancashire Thunder at Hove on Thursday ensured Southern Vipers claimed another two points to move up to second spot in the Kia Super League table at the halfway stage, heading into Sunday’s crunch fixture against Surrey.
Southern Vipers Squad:
An unchanged 15-strong squad has been named for this week’s home contest.
Stafanie Taylor continued her fantastic start to this summer’s campaign, with the all-rounder striking her first half-century for the Vipers against the Thunder, adding to scores of 40, 38 and 44* in her three innings prior to Thursday’s contest. Maia Bouchier also contributed valuable runs in that fixture, hitting 40 at better than a run a ball after the loss of early wickets.
After a solid start to the season, Amanda-Jade Wellington enjoyed a breakthrough game on Thursday, claiming an excellent 3-22 with the ball to help restrict the visitors first-up at Hove. She’ll be hoping to add to that tally on Sunday.
The Opposition:
After claiming last year's competition crown, Surrey Stars have begun their 2019 campaign in good form, picking up victories in both of their first two contests, before falling short last time out against Loughborough Lightning.
Boasting a strong squad including England's Nat Sciver, Laura Marsh and wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor, and with overseas stars Dane van Niekerk and Lizelle Smith also featuring, the Stars have plenty of talent to call upon on Sunday. Van Niekerk has impressed particularly so far and sits tied in fourth of the list of top wicket-takers so far in this year’s KSL.
