On This Day: McKenzie Turns It On Against Kent

Neil McKenzie's century - on this day in 2013 - saw Hampshire take control on day two of Kent's visit to the The Ageas Bowl in the County Championship

Neil McKenzie (146) - Hampshire v Kent, County Championship: 5th - 8th June 2013

In 2008, South African Neil McKenzie played his last Championship match for Durham against Hampshire; two years later he came south and played at the The Ageas Bowl from 2010-2013.

He made significant contributions to Hampshire’s white ball successes in 2010 and 2012 and returned for the 2013 season.

His first match was in the County Championship against Kent and on this day - 5th June - he attacked the red ball to good effect, scoring 146 from 214 balls in 286 minutes.

Sean Ervine with 86 helped Hampshire to post 455 but with rain interrupting proceedings, it became a declaration game with Kent’s non-bowlers feeding runs on the final morning.

Hampshire set Kent a target of 342 and had hopes as Kent collapsed to 41-4 but Darren Stevens (96) rescued them and the game was drawn with Kent 296-8.
