Perform at The Ageas Bowl Helping Local Mum’s European Championship Bid

Local mother Kelly Wickens prepares for the ETU 2015 European Championships with the help of Perform at the The Ageas Bowl

A local amateur athlete is preparing to compete for Great Britain next week thanks to sports and exercise medicine specialists Perform at the The Ageas Bowl.

Kelly Wickens will be competing for Great Britain in the ETU 2015 European Championships in Cologne as part of Hedge Edge Triathlon Club, based at the The Ageas Bowl.

Hedge End Triathlon and Running Club have been based at the The Ageas Bowl since February, thanks to a partnership with Hampshire Cricket in the Community.

The local mum of two is set to compete in the games beginning next week, having qualified for the championships just one year after competing in the Aquathlon event for the first time. As part of her preparations, Perform, part of Spire Healthcare, who reside at the The Ageas Bowl, are playing an important role ahead of the competition.

With no funding available for athletes to help with the costs of competing for Great Britain in Age Group championships for Aquathlon, Perform at the The Ageas Bowl have provided their state-of-the-art physiotherapy facilities and medical expertise free of charge to the medal hopeful.

I am so proud to be a part of the Great Britain Age Group team this is a great opportunity for me. Training for multidisciplinary events takes its toll on the body, and having such amazing support from local Southampton businesses has been completely unexpected, but gratefully received. Perform at the The Ageas Bowl have really looked after me as part of that. The facilities are state of the art and you are treated like an athlete no matter your background.

I have been supporting Kelly since the beginning, providing her with sports massage, offering advice on her running technique and helping her with injuries along the way. She is a dedicated athlete who I feel privileged to work with.
