Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Kemp Goes Berserk

Freya Kemp wreaked havoc against South East Stars when she smashed 40 runs off just 23 balls, with five fours and a six

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

After a cameo against Central Sparks, 17-year-old Freya Kemp took her game to another level against South East Stars, as the Vipers piled on the runs after being put in to bat.

Walking out with little over seven overs to go, Kemp got off the mark quick sharp, before pummelling consecutive boundaries off Eva Gray.

She first pulled an attempted bouncer from the Stars pacer, before she slapped the next ball through the covers as the Vipers closed in on the triple hundred.

A slower ball from Alice Davidson-Richards then also saw the boundary rope, as Kemp just evaded the hands of the cover fielder.

She then danced down the wicket to the England all-rounder, hitting her back over her head for a one-bounce four, turning her back as soon as she’d hit the shot.

Kemp then went one (or rather, two) better the very next ball.

She stepped over to the off side, and smashed the ball into the crowd over deep midwicket for a six, and she then brought up the Vipers’ 300 in the final over when she clipped Freya Davies for four through square leg.

Kemp was out the following ball, but had managed to score 40 runs off just 23 deliveries, and helped take the Vipers past the 300-run mark.

She then claimed the wicket of Bryony Smith, aided by some excellent glovework from Carla Rudd, and the Vipers went on to win by 133 runs.
