Hampshire legends & ex-England star Allan Lamb in attendance at official book launch on Friday 13th June

One of Hampshire’s favourite sons, Robin Smith, is set to return to the The Ageas Bowl this June for only his second visit after departing England for Australia in 2007.

Smith returns to Hampshire Cricket’s home – the The Ageas Bowl – this summer with three of his former Hampshire teammates, Barry Richards, Gordon Greenidge and Mark Nicholas, as well as regular partner at the crease for England, Allan Lamb – all of whom will be taking to the stage on Thursday 13th June at Hilton Southampton – The Ageas Bowl for the official launch of the autobiography in an evening event filled with entertainment.

Tickets for THE JUDGE Book Launch have been on priority sale to members of Hampshire Cricket for just £40 and are now on general sale to the public at £45 per person or £450 for a table of 10.

THE JUDGE Book Launch

The former Hampshire captain played for the county across a 21-year period between 1982 – 2003, leading the side as skipper between 1998 – 2002, playing alongside the likes of Barry Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Malcom Marshall, David Gower and Shane Warne.

‘The Judge’ as the Hampshire legend was known to most, was also one of England’s most popular cricketers of the 1990s, earning his reputation as a fearless batsman with a dangerous square cut after facing up to a ferocious West Indian pace-bowling attack.

Following his illustrious cricketing career for both club and country – retiring in 2003 – Smith suffered in the transition from professional cricket to the outside world, leading to mental health issues, leaving the once great cricketer at rock bottom and with thoughts of taking his own life.

Since overcoming his challenges, Smith has penned his story about the highs and lows of an eventful international and county career, reflecting fondly on a time when cricketers worked hard and partied even harder, whilst describing his route to success battling against his mental issues within his autobiography THE JUDGE: More Than Just A Game, co-written by the Guardian cricket writer Rob Smyth.

Following the return of 'the Judge' at last year's Hampshire Captains' Dinner, Smith decided to co-ordinate the official release of his book to be held at the home of his former county cricket club.
