Vince Named In England Squad For Second Sri Lanka Test

The 25-year-old will make his second England Test appearance, adding to his one One-day international cap and four IT20 caps

Hampshire captain James Vince has been selected in England’s 12-man squad ahead of the second Investec Test against Sri Lanka, which commences on Friday at Chester-le-Street.

Vince didn't have an opportunity to show his batting ability in the second innings of England's landslide victory at Headingley, after scoring 9 runs and trying his hand with the ball as England won by an innings and 88 runs.

Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the Test at Emirates Riverside with a knee injury sustained in the convincing victory at Headingley, and is set to be replaced by Warwickshire’s Chris Woakes.

Woakes will play in the first two days of Warwickshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Durham at Edgbaston before joining the England squad on Tuesday

Nottinghamshire bowler Jake Ball will also join England on Tuesday, currently playing against Hampshire at the The Ageas Bowl.

England squad:

Alastair Cook (Essex) (Capt), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Jake Ball (Nottinghamshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Nick Compton (Middlesex), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), James Vince (Hampshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

The Ageas Bowl will welcome England twice in 2016; firstly for a NatWest IT20 clash against Sri Lanka in July, on a day which will also see England Women face Pakistan Women, and then again in August for a Royal London ODI against Pakistan.
