Weatherley Hits 180 For Hampshire 2nd XI

Joe Weatherley impressed with the bat in Hampshire's Second XI friendly defeat to Nottinghamshire

Joe Weatherley scored 180 not out to help Hampshire Second XI post 333-4 in the first innings of a friendly defeat to Nottinghamshire at Chiswick.

Weatherley continued to show promise as he hit 26 fours and two sixes on his way to 180 off 242 balls, and Brad Taylor recorded 148 runs in the match, as Hampshire were beaten 161 runs.

All-rounder Josh McCoy took three Nottinghamshire wickets in the first innings, and seamer Andy Carter finished with three wickets the match with three wickets of his own, facing his former side.

Weatherley’s fielding helped restrict a formidable Nottinghamshire innings, catching key batsman Jacob Libby (176) off the bowling of Fraser Hay, as Hants were set a 399-run target.

Brad Taylor (61) forged a solid partnership with Weatherley, who was climbing towards his ton, and Fraser Hay hit 57 off 91 balls in an unbeaten 144-run stand for the fifth wicket before Hampshire declared on 334-4.

After Notts posted 270-4 in the second innings, Hampshire were trailing by 335 runs when Weatherley and Duggan opened the batting for the second time – a task Hants would fall 161 runs short of despite a superb knock from Taylor.

Arriving at the crease with Hampshire 68-3, Taylor added 87 runs to his first innings tally of 61, building a 62-run partnership with Fraser Hay for the fourth wicket, before Hampshire were reduced to 174 all out.
