Young Hampshire Fast-Bowlers Sign New Deals

Wheal & Stevenson commit to Hampshire

Hampshire fast-bowlers Brad Wheal and Ryan Stevenson have signed new deals, keeping them at the The Ageas Bowl until the end of the 2017 season.

19-year old Wheal, who was born in Durban but holds a British passport, joined Hampshire at the beginning of the year and immediately impressed during the club’s pre-season preparations. The right-arm fast-bowler was handed his first-class debut in May before going on to pick up impressive figures of 4-101 in Hampshire’s LV= County Championship match against Middlesex at Lord’s in June.

Brad has shown a lot of promise with the ball this year whilst Ryan has impressed us immensely during the short time he has been with us. Both will be looking to nail down a regular first-team place and we are looking forward to seeing them progress over the next two years

Giles White, Hampshire Director of Cricket

His promising ability with the ball didn’t go unnoticed at a national level with Wheal picking up five wickets on his debut for Scotland A during their friendly against the MCC in August.

I’ve settled in really nicely since I’ve arrived and having the opportunity to play in the first-team this year was more than I could have hoped for. I came to the The Ageas Bowl looking to prove myself and show everyone what I can do and I feel I have done that - It’s a brilliant feeling being offered a new contract and I’m excited for the next two years

Brad Wheal

23-year old Stevenson was offered a deal at the The Ageas Bowl until the end of the season in August after catching the eye of the Hampshire coaching staff whilst playing for minor counties side Devon. The right-arm fast-bowler then made an instant impact with the Second XI and earned a first-team debut in Hampshire’s recent LV=CC victory over Durham at the Emirates ICG.

It’s great to have that stability to know I will be at the club for at least the next two years and I’m really looking forward to working hard on my bowling to hopefully cement my place in the first-team
