Ben McDermott

Wicket-Keeper Batter

Ben McDermott is a hard-hitting, right-handed batsman who joined Hampshire Hawks for the 2022 Vitality Blast.

He was born in Caboolture, Queensland and has represented his home nation in both white-ball formats at international level.

A powerful right-hander, McDermott made his T20 debut in his home nation's Big Bash League (BBL) for Brisbane Heat in 2014, where his performances have given him the reputation as one of the most dangerous short-format batters in the world.

The 27-year-old's T20 record makes for impressive reading, notching up 2,374 runs at an average of 32.52 to his name in 89 innings - which has seen him receive international recognition with call-ups to both Australia's IT20 and ODI sides.

Since joining the Hobart Hurricanes, McDermott has been intergral to their BBL success and, in the 2021/22 season, was named the player of the tournament with a competition-high 577 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 153.86, while also becoming the first player in BBL history is record back-to-back centuries.

Most recently, he claimed his maiden international half-century, scoring 53 in Australia's IT20 series with Sri Lanka.

McDermott joined up with Hampshire Hawks for the 2022 Vitality Blast and formed a destructive opening partnership with captain James Vince.

The Australian scored 432 runs at an average of 27 in 2022’s T20 competition with a best of 83 against Middlesex at Radlett.

The overseas star also top scored in the final against Lancashire Lightning - his 62 being central to Hampshire’s total - as the Hawks won their first Vitality Blast trophy since 2012.
