Dale Steyn

Bowler

Dale Steyn is widely regarded as one of the world's best bowlers with his ability to swing the ball both ways whilst also harnessing the power to bowl over 90 mph.

Many batsman fear the scary eyes of Steyn, and with the speed and accuracy of his execution in bowling a cricket ball, there is no surprise that his record stands out amongst some of the greatest South African bowlers of all time.

The fast bowler has taken 419 Test wickets in 86 matches for the Proteas at an impressive average of 22.32, which leaves him just two wickets behind South Africa's all time leading wicket-taker, Shaun Pollock.

The right armed quick was awarded ICC Test Player of the Year 2008 and named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2013.

The South African veteran fast bowler has signed with Hampshire for a part of the 2018 season, in aid of his recovery back to International cricket following a shoulder injury that was sustained throughout the Proteas' home International season recently passed.

Steyn intends to play with Hampshire, following Hashim Amla's departure, in the final Royal London One-Day Cup group fixture this season against Somerset on Wednesday 6th June and also bolster the Rose & Crown county for their colossal Specsavers County Championship Division One match against Surrey, starting on Saturday 9th June at the Utilita Bowl, set to see Virat Kohli in action for Surrey, which could see an epic showdown between the two International stars.

Following South Africa's tour of Sri Lanka starting in July, Dale may rejoin Hampshire's ranks for the end of the season in September depending on health & fitness.
