An experienced left-handed opening batsman from Sri Lanka, Dimuth Karunaratne joins Hampshire as overseas player for the first half of the 2019 season.
Karunaratne is a seasoned International star for Sri Lanka having made more than 50 Test and 17 ODI appearances since making his debut in July 2011.
The 30-year-old has totalled more than 4,000 runs in his Test career so far, becoming a solid and consistent fixture at the top of the order in the longer format, with eight centuries and 22 fifties to his name.
Karunaratne was also appointed Test captain of the national side in February, replacing Dinesh Chandimal, with Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa his first as skipper. He’ll bring experience and leadership at the top of the order when he arrives ahead of April’s season opener.
