Indatwa

Indatwa is an exciting collaboration between the Hampshire Cricket Board (Women and Girls) and the charity Cricket Without Boundaries. The idea was conceived following Hampshire Women’s 1st XI player, Providence Cowdrill, trip to volunteer with CWB in Rwanda in October 2017. It was an incredible experience that she will remember for the rest of her life.

Hampshire Women’s team mate Ella Chandler followed in her footsteps and so it seemed a good idea to create a link between CWB Rwanda and Hampshire Women and Girls.

Support provided

  • Sponsored 5 players in 2020 and the whole senior team (16 girls) in 2021!
  • Organised for two players, Giselle & Henriette, to spend the summer training & playing in Hampshire, generously supported by Ropley CC – postponed due to Covid-19, rearranged hopefully for 2022
  • Produced lockdown videos for the Indatwa team to keep them occupied and engaged in cricket
  • Sent regular messages to the team particularly prior to matches and at Christmas – when 78 girls were involved in a 12 days of Christmas video!
  • Shared best practice with the team coach
  • Sent 12 bags of outgrown kit and equipment to Indatwa
  • Designed and provided the team with playing shirts
  • Held two W10 fundraising quiz nights

Impact

  • 6 Indatwa girls were selected for the Rwanda squad for the recent Kwibuka tournament where they came third - Sifa Ingabire, Ishimwe Giselle, Ishimwe Henriette, Muhawenimana Immaculate, Flora Urakoze, Josiane Uwimbabazi
  • 3 made the Team of the Tournament
  • Henriette was not only selected for Vice-Captain of Rwanda, but also picked up Player of the Tournament
  • New U13 Indatwa team

Indatwa is a great opportunity for you to learn about life and cricket in another country….where coaching sessions are often 200+ children strong, where a strip of dusty earth is a good pitch and where the children usually play in bare feet. It’s also an opportunity to learn about the key messages of CWB and the struggles of girls in sub-Saharan Africa.
