Indatwa Cricket Foundation

Indatwa, meaning 'legend', was conceived in October 2017, following a volunteering trip which two girls of the Hampshire Women's XI/Southern Vipers made with Cricket Without Boundaries. Through the strong friendships made with players in Rwanda, a partnership between Cricket Without Boundaries Rwanda and women and girls in Hampshire was made.

Since 2017, the aim of the partnership is to empower girls with life skills through cricket, under the auspices of Cricket Without Boundaries. We envision to strengthen and grow this partnership for years to come.

"This partnership will benefit the game of cricket, bringing the best out of the Ndera girls’ community on and off the cricket field by increasing playing, officiating and coaching opportunities regardless of age and capacity."

Landry Rurangwa, Rwanda Cricket Association

The Indatwa Cricket Foundation was set up in response to a February 2023 trip to Rwanda by HCB coaches and young leaders. It draws together the various organisations involved, comprimising of the Indatwa Cricket Academy, Hampshire Indatwa, Rwanda Cricket Association, Lord Taverners, as well as Cricket Without Boundaries and Hampshire Cricket Board.

Currently 40 girls have sponsors from Hampshire, with the fundraising supporting coaching, tournaments, and player development. Several have gone onto international representation, including the Rwanda U19 camptain, Ishmwe Gisele.

It's a hugely positive and exciting collaboration which benefits communities and changes the lives of young women in Rwanda and Hampshire.
