2017 Hampshire Cricket Fixtures Announced!

Hampshire's first home contest of the season will see them host reigning Specsavers County Championship champions, Middlesex

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have today announced the 2017 county cricket fixtures with Hampshire travelling to Yorkshire in the opening round of Specsavers County Championship fixtures beginning on Friday 7 April.

James Vince’s side will then return home to host reigning champions Middlesex in the opening County Championship match of the season at the The Ageas Bowl, starting on Friday 14 April.

Hampshire take on Yorkshire for the second time in quick succession in the second home match of 2017 before travelling to Essex and Somerset in May.

The ECB have also announced a historic first full round of day/night matches in the County Championship next June with the The Ageas Bowl selected as a host venue for Hampshire’s four-day match against Somerset, beginning on Monday 26 June.

Hampshire’s quest to reach an eighth NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day begins in July with away clashes against Glamorgan and Sussex on Friday 7 July and Wednesday 12 July respectively.

Middlesex will be the visitors in the club’s first home NatWest T20 Blast match on Friday 14 July and the Hampshire faithful will not have to wait too much longer to witness the ‘El Clasicoast’, with Thursday 20 July the date for Hants to face local rivals Sussex Sharks at the The Ageas Bowl.

Weekend T20 action then returns to the The Ageas Bowl with Hants up against Surrey on Sunday 23 July, whilst in a carbon copy of last season, the club will host Somerset in their last NatWest T20 Blast group match on Friday 18 August.

Starting earlier than last season, Hampshire’s Royal London One-Day Cup campaign will commence away from home against the Kent Spitfires on Thursday 27 April.

Hampshire will then face Middlesex for their opening home fixture of the competition on Wednesday 3 May, with the London-based side the first home opponents for Vince’s side in all three formats this season.

This year’s 50-over competition is divided into two divisions geographically as in previous years, with Hants also taking on Gloucestershire, Glamorgan and Sussex Sharks at home in 2017.

The ‘business end’ of the 2017 campaign will see Hants face newly promoted Essex for the penultimate Championship match before an away tie against Warwickshire in the last game of the season, starting on Monday 25 September.

It’s really nice to have two of our opening three games at home, and we’re looking forward to the challenge of taking on the reigning champions, Middlesex, and a team that have been very competitive in the top division for a number of years in Yorkshire, early on in the campaign.

Having the T20 fixtures a little later in the year will be fantastic too and hopefully attendances will continue to be strong with warmer evenings in the summer great for the shorter format – we have a weekend T20 fixture here once again as well which is always a great occasion.

With the Royal London (One-Day Cup) matches then played in an early block, that allows us to focus on each format in its entirety which will be of real benefit when putting our plans in place for next year’s competitions. Our pre-season preparations are already underway and we’re certainly looking to do well across the board in 2017.
