Abu Dhabi T10 League Preview

Ahead of the 2022 Abu Dhabi T10 League, we have looked at the Hampshire players that will be involved

The 2022 Abu Dhabi T10 League will be the sixth edition of the competition and the first match will take place tomorrow (Wednesday 23rd November). We have taken a look at the Hampshire players looking to make their mark in this year’s tournament.

Liam Dawson – Northern Warriors

Over the last few years, all-rounder Liam Dawson has become a heavily sought-after asset in many franchise leagues across the globe – most recently he turned out for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as they went on to record a third-place finish.

His left-arm spin has been a useful weapon in the shorter formats of the game, and he has been a prolific wicket taker in domestic competitions. Prior to his nine wickets for London Spirt in The Hundred this summer, Dawson took 20 wickets at an average of just 7.06 for Hampshire Hawks on their way to Vitality Blast glory.

He was drafted into this year’s T10 League by Northern Warriors as a replacement for Dushmantha Chameera and the two-time champions will be hoping he can help fire them to another title.

Their campaign starts on Thursday 24th November against Delhi Bulls.

Benny Howell – Bangla Tigers

Benny Howell, who signed for Hampshire in August, is another who has become a popular pick up in franchise leagues. His ability with both bat and ball has made him a player well suited to white ball cricket.

He, like Dawson, has shone in domestic cricket playing for Gloucestershire in the Vitality Blast and The Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix. Howell re-joins the Bangala Tigers for a second year, having taken nine wickets for them in the 2021 competition.

The Tigers get their campaign underway on Wednesday 23rd November, taking on newly formed Morrisville Samp Army.

James Fuller & Ross Whiteley – Chennai Braves

All-rounder James Fuller and middle-order batter Ross Whiteley both represented Hampshire Hawks and Southern Brave in the Vitality Blast and The Hundred in 2022 and will once again be on the same side in the far east this winter.

Whiteley played in last year’s competition for Northern Warriors and scored 72 runs for his former side. He has switched over to the Braves who have never won the T10 League.

Fuller, who led the Hawks in Vitality Blast wickets, was also picked up by the Braves after a successful season, which also saw him crowned Hampshire Players’ Player of the Year.

New York Strikers await the Braves for their opening game on Thursday 24th November.
