Charlotte Edwards Cup Rewind: Adams Anchors Down Victory Against Old Rivals

Captain Georgia Adams led the way with 47 as the Vipers defeated Northern Diamonds to top their group and go unbeaten in all six matches

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' successful Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign.

After Danni Wyatt’s assault on the Diamonds bowlers, Linsey Smith and Rachel Slater in particular, skipper Georgia Adams could take things a bit easier in the Vipers’ chase of 142 at The Ageas Bowl.

The captain got off the mark with the final ball of the second over, but didn’t score her first boundary until the final ball of the powerplay when she pulled Nat Sciver for four.

However, she soon took the attack to Katie Levick, hitting the second ball of the tenth over for six as the ball sailed over the leg spinner’s head, before she followed it up with another drive back down the ground for four.

Adams continued to attack the Diamonds’ spin as she took a liking to her opposite number, Hollie Armitage.

She slapped a half volley back down the ground and slog swept the next for back to back boundaries.

Not even England’s Katherine Brunt could contain Adams, as she whipped her through the leg side for another four to bring up the Vipers’ 100 at the end of the 12th over.

The spin of Linsey Smith was brought back on, and was met with a pull shot from Adams and the ball crashed into the boundary rope once more.

Former New Zealand spinner Leigh Kasperek was then brought into the attack but was met with the same assault from Adams.

She danced down the track and drove the off spinner back over her head for another boundary before she top edged a slog sweep which landed in the hands of Slater, just three runs shy of her half-century.

With the score on 124-3 in the 16th over, the Vipers had 27 balls to score just 18 runs, and Ella McCaughan finished things off by chipping Linsey Smith over her head for four to win the match by six wickets in the penultimate over.
