County Glory for Hook, Totton and St Cross

Hook and Totton Progress in National ECB Cups

The three junior cup competitions all produced different winners after closely fought matches hosted by Tichborne Park, Hursley Park and St Cross cricket clubs.

Hook and Newnham Basics under 15s retained the Justice Cup, with Callum Doran (25) top scoring.  Oaks' keeper Matt White claimed five stumpings from spinners Abbas (3 for 14) and Middleton (2 for 19) who added 25 in reply but Bland (2 for 9) and Gardner (2 for 14) secured a 13 run win.  The north Hampshire club then racked up 202 in a 60 run triumph over Ryde thanks to fifties from Robson and Neville, earning them a tie at Parley (Dorset) in national round two.

The under 13 Hindley Cup hinged on the application of the dead ball law.  With two needed from the final ball, Totton scrambled a bye, a throw missed the stumps, the ball was thrown up in celebration, the batters turned for a second and a shy at the bowler's end evaded the stumps and back up and went to the boundary.  Five runs resulted leaving one side distraught and the other ecstatic.  Billy Lightfoot, Tom Cheater and Leo Taylor had made thirties in Totton's run chase, while off spinner Lightfoot also claimed 3 wickets in Sparsholt's total of 118 (Elliot Colyer 29).  Totton went on to beat Ventnor in the national round and now face Ivybridge (Devon) in the regional finals at South Wilts CC.

St Cross edged home by three wickets in the under 11 Alan Rowe final after a hat-trick from Alex Claice and a spell of 2 for 6 from Dominic Kelly had restricted Eversley to 96 for 8.  Kelly then made 33 before retiring and despite two wickets each from Freddie Morgan and William Moss, the Winchester team recorded their fifth win since the competition started in 2008.
