Crane Set For England Test Debut

Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane will make his Test debut in England's fifth and final Ashes Test against Australia this week

Hampshire leg-spinner will be handed a Test debut during today's opening day of England's fifth Ashes Test against Australia in Sydney.

Crane, who becomes the youngest specialist spinner to represent England in 90 years, is the only change to the England side from the drawn Fourth Test against the hosts last time out, with Hampshire captain James Vince also set to line-up in the final XI at the SCG.

The match is the final fixture in the overseas Test series, with Mason featuring for Joe Root's side who will be looking to pick up a consolation win from the last remaining five-day contest.

The 20-year-old's debut is his second for the national side in the last 12 months, having made his first appearance for England against South Africa in an IT20 at the The Ageas Bowl in July.

It's a very big opportunity for Mason. - he's very excited at the moment as you'd guess from someone who is desperate to get involved in International cricket and play for England.

He's someone who won't back down from a challenge and likes to get stuck in. He's grown a lot throughout this trip and being involved in the England set-up so he's ready to play and hopefully it's the start of something special.

Joe Root, England Test Captain

Play is due to get underway down-under at 11:30pm (GMT) this evening, with coverage available to view from 10:30pm on BT Sport.,
