Cricket Returns To The IOW: Newclose Fixture Info

First-class cricket to be played on the Island for the first time since 1962

This morning's Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup fixture announcement saw Hampshire Cricket announce that one of next summer's County Championship matches would be staged on the Isle of Wight at Newclose County Cricket Ground.

Newclose was chosen following in-depth discussions with a number of local venues and the ECB.

Due to the exclusivity period around its ICC World Cup Tournament commitments next season, Hampshire Cricket is required to play a home fixture away from the Ageas Bowl and we are very excited to be staging a debut First Class fixture at Newclose Cricket Ground on the Isle of Wight. Having played Second XI matches there in recent years, we know that Newclose is a fantastic facility, with a good wicket and plenty of space for members and supporters.

Rod Bransgrove, Hampshire Cricket Chairman

Hampshire will play Nottinghamshire at Newclose, with the four-day match beginning on Monday 20th May. The match marks the first first-class fixture to be played on the Isle of Wight since 1962 and presents a fantastic opportunity to take top tier cricket to a wider audience.

The Club is working with a range of travel partners to ensure that as many of our mainland-based fans as possible will be able to join us for what should be a fantastic fixture. The match is a fitting reward for the hard work of everyone concerned at Newclose and, in particular, the determination and commitment of the late Brian Gardener who would be absolutely thrilled at this outcome.

Rod Bransgrove, Hampshire Cricket Chairman

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to confirm a partnership with Red Funnel and Red Jet will mean Members and Supporters travelling to the Island for the fixture will be able to receive up to a 60% discount on travel.

Full details of this and other travel arrangements will be announced in the coming weeks with the Club continuing to work with a number of other partners to make the journey to Newclose as easy and affordable as possible.

For Members or Supporters with any queries or questions around the Newclose fixture please don't hesitate to contact the Ageas Bowl's Membership Team via membership@ageasbowl.com or 02380 472002 (Opt.2).
