Dawson To Play In Pakistan Super League

Hampshire all-rounder excited to join 2017 PSL Champions, Peshawar Zalmi, as replacement for Shakib Al Hasan During English Pre-Season

Hampshire’s home-grown all-rounder jets off to the UAE for this year’s Pakistan Super League T20 Tournament taking place from 22nd Feb – 25th March.

The Super League hosts six teams filled with world-class players, who play at four different grounds within the UAE: Dubai, Sharjah, Lahore, and Karachi.

The tournament is renowned for bringing in the biggest T20 superstars from around the world to participate, with this year’s competition set to include the likes of: Kevin Pietersen (ENG), Shane Watson (AUS), Brendon McCullum (NZ), Sunil Narine (WI), Kumar Sangakkara (SL), Mohammad Amir (PAK) and more.

Dawson will join PSL 2017 Champions, Peshawar Zalmi, as a replacement for World No. 1 T20i ranked all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan for this year’s campaign.

In doing so, Liam will team up at Peshawar with big cricketing names such as: Evin Lewis (WI), Tamim Iqbal (PAK), Mohammad Hafeez (PAK), Darren Sammy (WI), Wahab Riaz (PAK) and Chris Jordan (ENG).

Last year, Peshawar were bolstered to victory by Dawson’s previous Hampshire teammate, Shahid Afridi. And with Liam featuring as a key spinning all-rounder for the Zalmis, the team will be excited to see Daws in action to help retain the title, all whilst he gains valuable experience towards the Hampshire white-ball season ahead.

It is anticipated that Dawson will fit in well to the competition as he has previously taken part in a large T20 tournament overseas from his involvement with Rangpur Riders in 2016's Bangladesh Premier League. Furthermore, Daws has also experienced playing in Dubai before in last year's North v South series, which may help him quickly adjust to the dissimilar conditions compared to England's.

Liam’s commitments to Peshawar Zalmi means that he will miss the North v South series in Barbados following his selection for the South squad. Surrey's 20-year old batsman, Ollie Pope, will take Dawson’s spot in the North v South series.

Peshawar’s first fixture takes place on 22nd February against Multan Sultans in Dubai, with the competition including a total of eleven group stage T20 fixtures before the Semi-Finals take place on 18th March & 20th March, followed by the PSL Final occurring on 25th March at Karachi.
