Derek Tulk (1934 - 2023)

Everyone at Hampshire Cricket Club is saddened by the news of the passing of former player Derek Tulk

Hampshire Cricket is saddened to hear of the passing of former player Derek Tulk.

Derek made his first-class debut back in 1956 v Gloucestershire. In the following year, he played once more against a strong Cambridge University side, which included Bob Barber and Ted Dexter.

Part of the formidable and all-conquering Old Tauntonians side of the 1970s, Derek spun the ball a lot and, with his accuracy, perfectly backed up the opening bowlers Tony Baker and Bernie Thomason.

However, more importantly, Derek was a nice man who always had a word of encouragement for those on both sides who’d had a bad day with bat or ball.

Derek leaves a lasting legacy at the club, his son, Ian, has worked for Hampshire for over 20 years.

There is no living Hampshire player that has made their debut earlier than Derek in 1956.
