EISA: Limited Places Remain For The Ageas Bowl-based BTEC

The Elite International Sports Academy's Extended BTEC Diploma Begins In September

The Ageas Bowl’s Elite International Sports Academy still holds a limited number of spaces for its cricket-based BTEC Extended Diploma course, due to commence in September.

A dynamic alternative to college, the EISA has seen a group of 12 ambitious students flourish in its first year and returns in September, taking on a brand new group of ambitious 16-18 year olds for a two-year programme.

Those interested in pursuing a sports pathway through EISA can benefit from a taster morning on Wednesday 19th July, when they can experience a day in the life of a college student and watch the current cohort take on the inaugural Kia Super League champions, the Southern Vipers, in a T20 match on the Nursery Ground.

Whilst studying academia in the venue’s Orbit centre, pupils undergo a diverse training programme and enjoy guest sessions from Hampshire players of past and present, from opening batsman Jimmy Adams and all-rounder Chris Wood to former Club wicket-keeper Michael Bates.

Tutored as a group and in one-on-one sessions by coach Ron Hodgson, the students are also guided in non-cricket training by the venue’s Strength & Conditioning Assistant, Jamie Cook, who worked extensively with the Southern Vipers in 2016 as they became champions of the inaugural Kia Super League.

The EISA presents a unique opportunity for young cricketers to combine their educational studies and passion for sport in an elite training environment. The world class facilities, partnered with the top quality coaches and teachers ensure that all students access a two-year programme which will set them up for their future careers.

Sam Bracey, EISA Manager

EISA pupils undergo an extensive work experience programme focused around the The Ageas Bowl’s summer-long exhibition of high quality cricket; assisting ground staff, learning about operational matters at the venue and gaining an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes in the commercial team gives students a broader perspective of the environment in which they are growing.

A selection of this year’s group are applying for a place at university, having visited Southampton Solent University in May, giving an insight into ‘a day in the life of a student’ - whilst all of them are keen to continue their pursuit of a career in sport.

An unforgettable developmental experience offering an invaluable insight at an elite sports venue, there are few programmes better tailored to a successful career in cricket.
