Gubbins On Hampshire's 2023 Fixtures

Hampshire batter Nick Gubbins looks ahead to the team's fixtures for the 2023 season

Hampshire begin their 2023 campaign against newly promoted Nottinghamshire. Gubbins was full of praise for the East Midlands outfit.

"I played them during the Bob Willis season, they've been a really good side for a few years now"

Hampshire then travel to arguably their biggest rivals last year, Surrey, who are coming off a fantastic County Championship campaign where they only lost one match and were crowned champions in September. Gubbins believes the team can put the past behind them and get a result at The Oval.

"We have more than the capabilities to go there and do something, we’re looking forward to kind of putting a marker down for the season there."

Gubbins focused on the match against his former County, Middlesex, when asked which fixtures stand out to him.

"It will be nice for me to play against Middlesex with them now back in Division One. I look forward to welcoming them here."

Gubbins led a youthful Hampshire side to the semi-final of the One Day Cup, something which seemed unlikely before the competition began. When asked about the 2023 edition of the tournament, the left-hander played down the expectation for the group.

"I've just had a quick look at our group and it looks like quite a strong group. For us personally, I don't think too much changes... I think it's one of those competitions where you probably look inwardly at yourselves rather than outwardly because things change pretty quickly."

Hampshire return to Newclose in 2023, the scene of an incredible comback win against Northamptonshire in 2022. Gubbins releshed the opportunity to return to the Isle of Wight again in 2023.

"We obviously somehow pulled a rabbit out of the hat last year. It was just kind of indicative of Hampshire over the last few years, we never gave up and we never stopped fighting and it was an enjoyable beer afterwards."
