Hampshire & Southern Vipers Set For The Hundred 2022

A combined total of nineteen players from Hampshire and the Vipers will take part in The Hundred this summer

The Hundred is returning for 2022 and the squads for all eight of the franchises have now been finalised.

A number of Hampshire and Southern Vipers have either been retained or picked up in the draft by their respective franchises.

Southern Brave

Men: James Vince, Ross Whiteley, Joe Weatherley

It was announced in February that Hampshire and Brave captain James Vince was to be retained by the inaugural winners of the men’s competition, along with batter Ross Whiteley.

Meanwhile, Joe Weatherley – a product of Hampshire’s player pathway system – was also picked up by the Brave in this year’s draft. This comes as a result of a productive 2021 Vitality Blast where he finished as the Hawks’ top run scorer.

Women: Danni Wyatt, Maia Bouchier, Lauren Bell, Carla Rudd, Tara Norris, Paige Schofield, Georgia Adams, Freya Kemp, Ella McCaughan

Danni Wyatt, Maia Bouchier, Lauren Bell, Carla Rudd, Tara Norris and Paige Scholfield were the six members of the Southern Vipers who were retained by last year’s runners-up.

However, the draft will see a further three Vipers remain at The Ageas Bowl during the tournament. Georgia Adams, captain of the Vipers, left current champions Oval Invincibles to join up with many of her team mates at the Brave. Batter Ella McCaughan and 16-year-old bowler Freya Kemp were also welcomed during the draft.

London Spirit

Men: Mason Crane, Brad Wheal, Chris Wood, Liam Dawson

A quartet of Hampshire players will play their cricket at Lord’s during The Hundred in 2022. Mason Crane and Brad Wheal were retained from last year’s squad, before Chris Wood was re-signed during the draft.

Having left Southern Brave, all-rounder Liam Dawson was also selected and became one of the Spirit’s marquee signings alongside West Indies international Keiron Pollard.

Women: Charlie Dean, Alice Monaghan

London Spirit women will be looking to build on a positive 2021 campaign, after they fell just short of a place in the Eliminator.

England international Charlie Dean and young all-rounder Alice Monaghan were retained and will be the Vipers’ representatives for the Spirit.

Oval Invincibles

Women: Emily Windsor

Defending women’s champions Oval Invincibles added Emily Windsor, who played a crucial role in the final of the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy for Southern Vipers last year. She arrives at the Kia Oval from Trent Rockets as they begin their bid to retain their title.
