Hampshire Cricket Partner Up With The Royal British Legion For Their ‘Thank You’ Project

Hampshire Cricket and the The Ageas Bowl are proud to announce they will be supporting the Royal British Legion’s ‘Thank You’ campaign

The campaign, which launched last Friday and is aimed at encouraging the public to say ‘Thank You’ to the First World War generation for their service to their country, will feature at the The Ageas Bowl during Hampshire’s Specsavers County Championship fixture against Nottinghamshire beginning on the 19th August, as well as on Day One of the venue’s England v India Specsavers Test Match on Thursday 30th August.

A guard of honour and applause will be held on the opening day of the Test – the biggest match in the The Ageas Bowl’s history - whilst Hampshire Cricket’s rich heritage of WW1 combatants will be celebrated throughout, with booklets and banners commemorating the generation who served during WW1.

The Royal British Legion will have presence at both of these matches with staff, cadets, veterans, and current serving military personnel invited to enjoy the on-field action.

No less than 23 Hampshire Cricketers lost their lives during the First World War, more than any other first-class county.

The Great War touches us all and here at Hampshire Cricket it was deeply important for us to get involved with the ‘Thank You’ movement. We’ve been looking back through the history books and discovering the sacrifices made by our own players has brought the Great War even closer to home.

We are honoured to be part of the movement and show our respect to this generation that truly did change the world.

Rod Bransgrove, Chairman

The ‘Thank You’ initiative is part of a nationwide movement which will see communities across the country commemorating the generation who served throughout the war over 100 days prior to 11th November.
