Hampshire Hawks Announce Ben McDermott Signing For 2022 Vitality Blast

The hard-hitting Australian international joins the Hawks for the T20 season

Hampshire Hawks are delighted to announce the signing of Australian batter, Ben McDermott for this summer’s Vitality Blast.

The hard-hitting opener has signed a contract to join up with James Vince’s Hawks for the 2022 T20 campaign.

McDermott made his Big Bash League (BBL) debut in 2014 for Brisbane Heat and, since then, the 27-year-old has garnered a reputation as one of the most powerful and dangerous short-format batters in the world, notching a total of 2,374 runs at an average of 32.52 in 89 T20 innings.

He has also received recognition on the international stage and – since his first cap against UAE in October 2018 – has represented Australia in both IT20s and ODIs.

However, it was the 2021/22 BBL season that saw McDermott scale new heights as he accumulated a competition-high 577 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 153.86, while also becoming the first player in BBL history to record back-to-back centuries.

I am really excited to join the Hawks for this summer’s Vitality Blast.

I’m looking forward to joining James Vince and the team at The Ageas Bowl and am hoping I can contribute to a successful T20 campaign

Ben McDermott

Ben is an exciting talent and we are really pleased that he’s joining us for the Vitality Blast.

He had an excellent BBL and his power and ability to clear the ropes make him an excellent fit for us.

We are looking forward to seeing him in a Hawks shirt this summer.

Giles White, Hampshire Director Of Cricket
