James Vince Signs New Contract & Becomes Hampshire Club Captain

Vince will now remain at the The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of the 2019 campaign

Batsman James Vince has put pen-to-paper to a long-term contract extension and has been appointed the new Hampshire Club Captain.

The 24-year old’s current deal was due to expire at the end of next year, but Vince will now remain at the The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of the 2019 campaign.

I’m delighted to have this opportunity to become club captain – I really enjoyed the taste of it I had this year and I feel I’ve got much more to offer. Year in, year out, we compete in limited overs competitions, so I’m hoping we can go on to win trophies over the next few years and challenge at the top of the Championship which I feel we are more than capable of doing.

I am very grateful to Hampshire for giving me opportunities at a young age and it’s a great feeling to have signed to the club for the next four years.

James Vince

Vince will be taking over the reins as Club Captain from Jimmy Adams who officially stepped down this week. The batsman is no stranger to role of captain having skippered the NatWest T20 Blast side for the last two seasons and the Royal London One-Day Cup team this year.

The England Lions skipper temporarily took over as captain of the four-day team in July of this season, as Hants avoided relegation from LV= County Championship Division One.

James has developed into a genuinely gifted and creative captain and has demonstrated a maturity well beyond his years. I am thrilled that another graduate of our superb Academy has emerged with the characteristics required to fulfil the role of Club Captain. His commitment to Hampshire Cricket is absolute and he has further demonstrated this by entering a long term contract with the Club.

Following in the footsteps of some quite outstanding players and men, James understands the heritage and the values of this Club and I have every confidence that, in time, he will rank equally amongst the best of his predecessors.

I am sure all Hampshire supporters will join myself and the Board of Directors in wishing James every success in his new role.

Rod Bransgrove, Hampshire Cricket Chairman

Born in Sussex but raised in Wiltshire, Vince worked his way through Hampshire’s junior ranks before making his Second Team debut in 2007.Two years later, he played his first matches for Hampshire’s First Team before becoming a regular in 2010.

Vince has played a key role in the top/middle in all formats ever since, being ever-present in Hampshire’s limited overs triumphs in 2010 & 2012 and finishing the 2013 & 2014 campaigns as the club’s leading runs-scorer in the Championship.

Vince, who was awarded with his first full England call up at the end of April 2015, will spend the winter skippering the Lions team in a five-match T20 series against Pakistan ‘A’ in the UAE in December.
