Match Preview: Surrey v Hampshire, Vitality CC
A 13-player Hampshire squad will travel to The Kia Oval to take on Surrey in the Vitality County Championship
Hampshire will be looking to secure a second win in as many games when they take on Essex in the 2017 Royal London One-Day Cup at Chelmsford on Sunday.
Hampshire Squad:
Kyle Abbott and Gareth Berg return to the Hampshire squad having been rested for Thursday’s victory against Kent Spitfires and are available to make their first appearance for the side in the 2017 competition.
Hampshire batsman, George Bailey, is also available having joined up with the squad this week and could be in line to make his second Hampshire debut on Sunday.
Reece Topley is also set to face his former side, the left-arm seamer facing Essex for the first time since joining Hampshire in 2015.
Rilee Rossouw (finger) and Fidel Edwards (hamstring) are unavailable for this fixture due to injury, whilst Chris Wood and Brad Wheal (both side) are also not due to travel to Chelmsford.
The Opposition:
Essex Eagles won half of their eight group-stage matches in 2016, finishing two places above Hampshire in third, and were edged out at the quarter-final stage by eventual winners, Warwickshire.
Led by the ever-present Ryan ten Doeschate, Essex provide a stiff challenge as they look to begin their campaign in positive fashion in front of their home crowd.
Recent Form:
Essex won by three wickets when the sides met last June, despite Hampshire totalling 310 batting first courtesy of an unbeaten 83 from Tom Alsop.
Hampshire’s latest One-Day Cup outing on the road also saw Alsop star once again, this time notching an unbeaten 112* to help steer his side to a comfortable five wicket win over Kent at Canterbury.
