New Hampshire Contract Extension For Chris Wood

Hampshire’s all-time leading T20 wicket taker has signed a new deal until at least the end of the 2023 season

Hampshire Cricket are pleased to announce that seamer Chris Wood has signed a new one-year white-ball contract extension, keeping him at The Ageas Bowl until at least the end of the 2023 season.

The 32-year-old, who is a product of Hampshire’s Academy, is the Club’s all-time leading T20 wicket taker and has played in 280 matches across all formats since his debut in 2010.

During his time at the Club, Wood has been influential in Hampshire’s white-ball success and played a major role in their inaugural T20 title win in 2010, both limited-over triumphs in 2012 and victorious 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, as well as Hampshire Hawks’ most recent Vitality Blast success.

I’m delighted. I’ve been with the Club a while now and I’m fortunate enough to have won a few trophies during that time.

I’ve always loved playing for Hampshire, and at The Ageas Bowl, and I’m keen to finish my career here and look forward to pushing for more silverware in that time.

Chris Wood

Wood retired from red-ball cricket in 2020 and has only played in the Vitality Blast in the past two seasons, with his involvement in The Hundred with London Spirit ruling him out of the Royal London Cup.

2022 saw the left-armer produce some of his best numbers for Hampshire Hawks, taking 21 wickets with an economy rate of 7.93 during 16 matches throughout the Club’s successful Vitality Blast campaign.

His wickets and ability to bowl at the death was vital for the Hawks as the side made a remarkable turnaround from losing their opening four group stage matches to win a dramatic final at Edgbaston against Lancashire Lightning.

Chris has the experience of eight different Finals Days and has been an integral part of the success of our T20 teams over the years.

He’s a great competitor, wants the ball in the pressure moments and is a key figure both on and off the field.

Giles White, Director of Cricket

Overall, Wood has 382 wickets in all formats with 171 coming in T20s – 52 more than anyone else to have played for Hampshire since T20’s inception.

The best way to see Chris and the rest of the Hampshire squad in action in 2023 is with a Hampshire Cricket Membership, granting the ultimate access to Hampshire and Hampshire Hawks’ endeavours.
