Option One: Abbas takes 4-22 in innings victory against Somerset

Opening games of the season couldn't have gone much better for Hampshire.

Bowling the opposition out cheaply before piling on the runs, and bowling them out cheaply again with a day to spare.

Whilst wickets were chared around in the first innings, it was Mohammad Abbas who starred in the second, with 4-22, as Somerset were bowled out for just 135, and the Rose and Crown sealed victory by an innings and 113 runs to kickstart their LV= Insurance County Championship Campaign.

Abbas' first victim was Steven Davies with the very first ball after the lunch break on day three, as the Somerset keeper edged to the safe hands of Liam Dawson at second slip.

The wiley Roelof van der Merwe was next to go looking to drive through the covers, but Mo nipped one back to clatter into the off stump.

Exactly two overs later, Abbas had Peter Siddle edging, and Dawson once again took a good catch at slip, diving low to his right, and Somerset were 95-8.

With wickets tumbling, it was a case of when the last wicket would be taken, and in the 51st over, Marchant de Lange went for a heave into the leg side, only to find his leg stump cartwheeling behind him, and that, very much, was that.

Option Two: Abbas takes 6-45 in comfortable win against Gloucestershire

Mo's best figures of the 2022 season came against Gloucestershire at The Ageas Bowl as his 6-45 helped bowl the visitors out for just 179 in their first innings.

It didn't take long for Abbas to strike, as George Scott edged behind to Ben Brown in the fourth over of the day, before James Bracey succumbed to the same fate just three balls later having been dropped off his first ball.

Abbas then had his second left hander of the day, as Brown took his third catch in just the 12th over with Miles Hammond falling for 10, and the score became 27-3.

Another couple of overs later and Abbas had his fourth. He pinned the Gloucestershire captain Graeme van Buuren on the back leg, and the umpire didn't need much deliberation before raising his finger.

Gloucestershire then managed to rebuild somewhat, but Abbas was in the action again shortly before the tea break, as Dominic Goodman gloved a ball down the leg side to Brown, and Abbas had his fifth.

Two balls later and the ninth wicket fell, as Abbas' compatriot Mohammad Amir edging behind to Liam Dawson at second slip.

Option Three: Abbas takes match figures of 6-62 in victory against Yorkshire

The long trip to Scarborough didn't seem to do Abbas any harm, as his 6-62 in the match helped Hampshire to a convincing seven-wicket win.

He struck with 3-25 in the first innings before taking figures of 3-37 in 29 overs, with 15 maidens.

In just the second over of the opening day, Abbas had Adam Lyth chopping on as he was caught in two minds, before Tom Kohler-Cadmore was wrapped on the pad in the eighth over, and Yorkshire stumbled to 8-3.

At the end of the first hour of the day, Abbas had his third, as Jonathan Tattersall left one he shouldn't have and Abbas crashed into his off stump.

In the second innings, Mo struck early once again. With his fifth ball, he trapped George Hill lbw for nought, and Yorkshire were 0-1 in the second over.

After some graft by the white rose county on day three, Abbas struck with the second new ball, bowling Matthew Waite for 47, before following it up by finding a leading edge off Tattersall who was well caught by Ian Holland in the gully.

Hampshire went on to win the game on day four by seven wickets.

Option Four: Abbas claims four second innings wickets in dramatic final day victory against Northamptonshire

Arguably the most dramatic victory of the 2022 season.

With over two days of play lost to rain, Hampshire somehow managed to squeeze out a win on Northamptonshire with playing going, quite literally, down to the final ball.

Abbas' first wicket of the final innings was an unusual one, and not one Josh Cobb will look back on too fondly.

With rain in the air, the umpires called the cover on, only to send them back seconds later when the Northamptonshire batters had reached the boundary rope.

Forced back on, Abbas steamed in to Cobb and hit him on the pad, the umpire raised his finger, and the heavens opened.

Once the rain had died down, play resumed, and Abbas was quickly in the action again.

James Sales edged to James Vince at first slip, and Hampshire had their sixth.

Northamptonshire resisted, but Abbas still found a way through as he found the inside edge of Tom Taylor's bat, and Aneurin Donald dove to his left to take the catch.

Less than four overs later, Mo took the ninth wicket, bowling Ben Sanderson and knocking his off stump out of the ground.

Three overs later, and the game was over in the nick of time, as James Fuller bowled Jack White seconds before the rain pelted down and the covers came on for good.

Option Five: Abbas takes 7-97 in the match against Kent

A strong performance in an otherwise forgettable match for Hampshire, Abbas took his second best match figures of the season against Kent at The Ageas Bowl.

Once again, he was straight into the action as Daniel Bell-Drummond feathered an edge behind to Ben Brown, and Kent were 1-2 in the second over.

After a barren middle of the innings, Abbas was brought back after tea, and pinned Connor McKerr lbw for a single, before Nathan Gilchrist went for a swipe and was caught by James Fuller 12 balls later.

With a tricky task ahead of them, Hampshire needed to bowl Kent out cheaply to stand a chance of victory, and it was Abbas again who gave the team that hope.

Ben Compton pushed forward and edged to Vince in the dying moments of day one, before McKerr feathered one behind to Donald two balls later, and Kent were 19-2 in the tenth over.

However, a fightback led by Kent skipper Jack Leaning made chances of victory increasingly difficult for the home side.

Ollie Robinson was Abbas' next victim. The keeper looked to send the ball into the stands, but could only find the hands of Vince at slip, before Gilchrist was once again caught by Fuller looking to heave into the on side.
