Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Rewind: Adams’ Season Best At Derby

Georgia Adams scored 82, her highest score of the season, as the Vipers completed an emphatic win against Lightning

With the 2022 season now firmly in the rear-view mirror, we're taking a look back at some of the performances that caught the eye throughout Southern Vipers' Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign.

Heading to Derby, the Vipers were aiming to go unbeaten in ten matches in 2022, as they faced Lightning in the third round of fixtures in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

On a boiling hot World Snake Day, Georgia Adams called correctly at the toss and elected to bat first, with Chloe Hill making her debut for the Vipers.

In the first over, Adams got things underway by driving Sophie Munro through the covers for four – a sign of things to come.

A low full toss from the pace bowler was then dispatched to the long on boundary for four before the Vipers captain cut her opposite number, Kathryn Bryce, away for her third boundary.

Adams then brought up the half-century opening partnership in the 13th over as she swept the Scotland international for four.

Lightning then brought some spin into the attack in the form of Lucy Higham, and Adams responded with back to back boundaries with consecutive pull shots, as the off spinner dropped short to end her over.

Adams kept accumulating runs and reached fifty, having faced just 57 balls, in the 23rd over with a pull shot off Teresa Graves.

The next over, she came down the wicket to England U19s’ Josie Groves as she whipped the leg spinner for four through the leg side.

The 150 partnership was the next landmark crossed, as another full toss from Groves was slapped through midwicket for four.

Adams then settled down for a while after quick wickets from the home side, before she pulled a short ball from Groves for another boundary on the leg side.

The Vipers captain eventually departed just 18 runs shy of what would’ve been a second century in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

With 72 from fellow opener Ella McCaughan, 47* from Emily Windsor, plus cameos from Tara Norris and Nancy Harman, the Vipers posted 294.

Adams later picked up the wicket of Gwen Davies for five, and the Vipers went on to win by 66 runs to win ten games on the bounce.
