Ross Whiteley Leaves Hampshire To Rejoin Derbyshire

The 35-year-old white-ball batter departs the Club after two seasons playing at The Ageas Bowl

Hampshire Cricket batter, Ross Whiteley, has left the Club to rejoin Derbyshire.

The 35-year-old made his professional debut for Derbyshire in 2008, before moving to Worcestershire where he impressed in white-ball cricket. He was a part of the Rapids side that was crowned 2018 Vitality Blast champions.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last two seasons at Hampshire Cricket, which has made this decision even more difficult.

I leave with some great memories and friendships in such a short space of time, and that’s a credit to how special this place is.

I’d like to thank all the support staff for all their time and effort over the years, it’s been a pleasure to be a part of this changing room. And the fans for their energy and support which made playing here so enjoyable.

Having solidified himself as a dangerous boundary-hitting batter, Whiteley was selected for The Ageas Bowl-based Southern Brave for The Hundred in 2021, which saw him contribute 44 not-out in the final to lead his side to win the competition's inaugural title.

Subsequently, he was signed by Hampshire Hawks ahead of the 2022 Vitality Blast campaign, where he scored 231 runs to help them secure a third T20 title and a first since 2012.

Whiteley then played in all of the Hawks’ matches of the 2023 campaign as they made it to a record tenth T20 Finals Day.

Ross has been a popular member of the T20 team over the last couple of years.

We are sad to see him go but understand and support his reasons to move. We wish him well with his new career at Derbyshire.

Giles White, Hampshire Director of Cricket

Everyone at Hampshire Cricket would like to thank Ross for all his efforts and would like to wish him all the best for the future.
