Sam Northeast Leaves Hampshire

The 31-year-old joins Yorkshire with immediate effect for a short loan period before being available to speak to other counties

Hampshire Cricket can announce that Sam Northeast has left the Club by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old joins Yorkshire with immediate effect for a short loan period before becoming available to speak to other counties.

Northeast first joined Hampshire ahead of the 2018 season, making his Club debut against Worcestershire before quickly establishing his place in the top-order in his first season at The Ageas Bowl.

The right-hander featured prominently in Hampshire's final two matches of their triumphant 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, striking two half-centuries in as many games - including a superb 75* against his former side in the Lord's final - to contribute to Hampshire’s first limited-overs trophy in six years.

He proved to be crucial to Hampshire’s successes in his second season, totalling 1,123 First-Class runs in 2019 - 969 of which came in the County Championship – whilst also standing in as captain for significant periods during James Vince’s international commitments that summer.

Northeast took the captaincy for Hampshire’s second successive List A Final in 2019, a competition in which he totalled 280 runs at an average of 40. His contributions in the summer’s T20 competition were also valuable, with a tally of 243 runs in 13 T20 fixtures, almost helping Hampshire reach an eighth finals day.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a truncated 2020 domestic season, Northeast captained the side throughout a positive Bob Willis Trophy competition. This season Northeast featured in eight LV= Insurance County Championship matches and a Vitality Blast fixture, Northeast striking a century and two fifties in that time.
