Southern Vipers Announce New Academy Cohort And Emerging Players Programme

Twelve players make up this year’s Southern Vipers Academy, whilst a brand-new EPP looks to improve the skills of those below Academy level

Southern Vipers is pleased to announce an Academy intake of 12 players for 2022/23.

Ten players – Abi Norgrove (Oxfordshire), Mary Taylor (Sussex), Millie Taylor (Sussex), Poppy-Jay Watkins (Hampshire), Rachel King (Hampshire), Ava Lee (Berkshire), Holly Rider (Berkshire), Caitlin Chissell (Hampshire), Daisy Gibb (Sussex), and Gemma Porter (Hampshire) – were already part of the programme, with Kent’s Megan Sturge and Hampshire’s Eve O’Neill joining the Academy.

There is no better time to be a young female cricketer making your way in the game. To see the inception of the third tier of Southern Vipers Performance Program, underpinning the recent successes of the senior and academy platforms bodes very well for the women’s game! In particular, such was the outstanding strength in depth displayed by all who were assessed across our late summer observation days, the south central region, driven by the energy and engagement of its 7 consortium counties, is clearly in a great place right now. I wish the full Academy & EPP cohort, class of 2023, the very best of luck, hoping they have the best of journeys with the Vipers.

Adam Carty, Regional Director of Women's Cricket

The brand-new Emerging Players Programme (EPP) is looking to influence and improve young players of high potential just below the Academy level.

Southern Vipers have four regional hubs in Hampshire, Sussex, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire which will look after the players who have been selected for the EPP.

We are pleased to welcome Meg and Eve to our Academy programme. They will join an exciting group of players who, I’m sure, will embrace the challenges of Academy life at the Vipers. We are also excited to launch the new regional EPP. We have 32 young players across 4 hubs and the girls will have access to high level training across all relevant skills to help them progress. This programme is being led by Regional Talent Managers Beth Morgan and James Schofield with support from coaches from around the region to compliment various skill sets.

Ian Cox, Senior Regional Talent Manager

The new Emerging Players Programme will include access to bespoke cricket skills training, a comprehensive strength & conditioning programme, and nutritional & wellbeing support.
