Tom Prest Stars in England U19s Win

18 year old Hampshire all-rounder impressed in Sri Lanka

Hampshire all-rounder Tom Prest contributed with bat and ball to help England Under 19s to a 25-run victory in their first ODI against Sri Lanka Under 19s in Columbo.

The England top order responded well to being stuck into bat after Sri LankTa won the toss.

The visitors enjoyed regular partnerships as steady runs flowed throughout the innings with Prest hitting 22 from 19 balls batting at no. 3.

Will Luxton top scored with 44 as England finished 242 all-out with three balls to spare. Left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage was the pick of the Sri Lanka bowlers with 5-30.

After a solid start to the run-chase it was Prest who made an immediate impact with a wicket in his first over.

The 18-year old spinner bowled both opening batsman in quick succession to reduce the hosts to 60-2.

From there, wickets fell at regular intervals with Joshua Boyden impressing with figures of 3-27 as Sri Lanka were dismissed for 217.

In November, Prest has signed his first professional contract with Hampshire Cricket.

The Dorset born all-rounder made his first-team breakthrough this summer and joined on a deal until the end of the 2024 season.
