Match Preview: Surrey v Hampshire, Vitality CC
A 13-player Hampshire squad will travel to The Kia Oval to take on Surrey in the Vitality County Championship
The cricket community gathered at Havant Park to pay a fitting tribute to Bill Hindley.
Havant’s Under 11s took on South East Hants Cricket Association, which Hindley (aka “WB”) chaired for 45 years.
Zombies, the Sunday side for whom Hindley also played, then tied with an All Star XI, with the day rounded off by a cricket tea.
It was a fitting day for a man who loved cricket. Two junior teams with whom he was most involved playing against one another, followed by a T20 match including his friends, teammates and opponents from across the county and all matches were played in wonderful September sunshine! WB would have loved it.
Richard Hindley
The teams gathered in the middle between the two games to celebrate a remarkable life with a minute’s applause, followed by the spreading of Hindley’s ashes.
Bill’s son Richard, a former Hampshire Cricket Board Development Officer, famously summoned from the office in 2003 to play in a championship match against Glamorgan, was delighted by the day.
