Vipers Ready To Bite In Australia

Five Southern Vipers will take part in England and England A’s tours to Australia.

The Women’s Ashes gets underway at 8:10am on Thursday 20th January, with three Southern Vipers in the England squad, and a further two involved with England A.

Off-spinner Charlie Dean and batter Maia Bouchier will take part in their first international tour, whilst opener Danni Wyatt will aim to add to her 203 international caps.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Georgia Elwiss is in the England A squad alongside fast bowler Lauren Bell.

Bell, nicknamed ‘The Shard’, received her first international callup after impressing over the summer, as she took 12 wickets in The Hundred and nine in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, whilst Elwiss was the Vipers' leading run scorer in the RHF Trophy with 265 runs at 53.00.

The Women’s Ashes features three T20Is, one Test match, and three ODIs before the Women’s Cricket World Cup gets underway in New Zealand on 4th March.

Dean and Bouchier both made their debuts last summer against New Zealand.

The Vipers duo have had strong starts to their international careers, with Dean taking 10 wickets in the ODI series, more than anyone else, and Bouchier scoring 25 runs on T20I debut at more than a run-a-ball.

Wyatt also had a good time out against the White Ferns as she ended up as England’s second leading run scorer in the T20I series, and scored 143 runs at an average of 71.50 in the ODIs.

England A will play six matches altogether – three T20s and three ODIs at Adelaide and Canberra.

Both Elwiss and Bell’s last games were back in September when they featured for the Vipers against the Northern Diamonds in the thrilling final of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, which the Vipers won by three wickets with two balls to spare.

We wish all the Southern Vipers the best of luck in what will hopefully be a successful tour Down Under to regain the Ashes!
